Message from the Chief Welcome to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Web Site. Providing information to our Community through the web site and our daily media releases allows us the opportunity to keep citizens abreast of current events affecting their daily lives.
The Chatham-Kent Police Services Board recently adopted our 2006-2008 Business Plan. The Plan addresses several community concerns regarding crime and pro-active policing strategies. I am very pleased to advise that our Community Based Policing initiatives are well underway.

$5,000 REWARD FOR INFORMATION The Chatham-Kent Police Service is offering a reward up to the amount of five thousand dollars ($5,000) for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of fifty-two year old Donna Ann FILISZEWSKI.
Donna, or the "CAT LADY", as she was known, was last seen alive at the Luxury Inn, 25 Michener Road, Chatham, Ontario on Sunday, September 10, 2006. ...more.

Police Officers carry torch; flame of hope toured through Chatham-Kent Local police officers carried the torch for young athletes hoping to participate in the Special Olympics.
Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service, Chatham-Kent OPP and corrections gathered at the Civic Centre in Chatham to participate in the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run. Following a group of speakers, police officers who traded in their uniforms for athletic attire, jogged down King Street carrying the torch. ...more.

Chatham-Kent Police Member wins Bodybuilding Competition. Approximately nine weeks ago Special Constable Kim Brown decided to compete in a bodybuilding competition. The last time he tried was 14 years ago at which time he placed 2nd in an all "Natural" competition. ...more.

CKPS Sergeant receives 20 year fitness pin. Chatham-Kent Police Service, Sgt. Paul Pomajba received his 20 year fitness pin at the Chatham-Kent Police Services Board meeting on Wednesday, February 13, 2008. The Ontario Police Fitness Program began in 1989 as a means of assessing and promoting fitness among officers. Participation is voluntary and officers are required to have a mark of 75% in tests of strength, cardiovascular fitness and flexibility to qualify. Sgt. Pomajba has received his pin every year and on November 1, 2007 became one of only a few officers to score 100%. Presenting him with a plaque and pin are CKPS Board Chairperson Uly Bondy and Police Chief Carl Herder. ...more.

Chatham-Kent Police Dog Service Deployed The Chatham-Kent Police Dog Service is deployed on patrol both during the day and night shifts. These officers with their K-9 partners respond to calls for service similar to any other police officer within the municipality. Additionally they are called upon for high-risk suspect apprehension, tracking both suspects and missing persons as well as article or evidence searches. The police dogs also assist officers with building clearing for possible suspects during an alarm or actual break and enter.

Chatham-Kent Police C.I.R.T. and CK S.A.R.V.A. Training Scenario In September 2007 the Chatham-Kent Police C.I.R.T. (Critical Incident Response Team) and CK S.A.R.V.A. conducted a missing person and evidence search training scenario. This training provided an opportunity for these two teams to enhance their skills on ground searches for missing persons while utilizing compasses and GPS technology. ...more.

Heroic 5 Year Old Calls 911 On July 29, 2007 at approximately 12:53 hours Police received a 911 call from a young girl stating that her mother had fallen and was unresponsive. Emergency personnel responded to the residence in Chatham and were let inside the residence by the 911 caller, 5 year old Katie Reynolds. Katie's mother (Jennifer Reynolds) was treated by paramedics and later transported to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for precautionary measures. ...more.

Cops Link with Kids In partnership with East Side Pride, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service and First Nations officers from Walpole Island and Moraviantown took part in a new community program dubbed, Cops Link with Kids.
The program was hosted by the Chatham Golf and Fun Centre and was funded through a one-time $15,000.00 grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. Over 160 applications province-wide were submitted with only 40 being approved for funding. ...more.

Graffiti Clean-up in Blenheim Cst. Jay Denorer and Councillor Karen Herman assisted in organizing a successful graffiti clean-up that saw several volunteers lend a hand in the removal of unsightly graffiti throughout Blenheim. It wasn?t an easy task; however, with the cooperation and the community pride, several volunteers were successful in eradicating graffiti in some highly visible locations. Chrysler & Dodge have released a new option for police vehicles Chrysler & Dodge have released a new option for police vehicles with their Dodge Charger. The Chatham-Kent Police Service currently has two of these new police cars in operation, one deployed with the Traffic Management Unit and one as a Patrol Supervisor vehicle. Plans are underway to replace more police vehicles with this same model in the future. The reviews from the public have been very positive and the officers find the 5.7 L Hemi powertrain more than adequate. ...more.
