District #2 is the largest land mass area in Chatham-Kent
and is further broken down into three separate Patrol Zones.
District #2 is comprised of several smaller communities
containing policing sub-stations where officers are assigned to
report for duty. There are sub-stations in Thamesville (Zone 201), Ridgetown (Zone 202) and Blenheim (Zone 203). Divided throughout the District there are 17 Police
Officers and one Community Services Special Constable. There are
also reporting stations in Bothwell and Erieau where officers
often attend and complete necessary paperwork, interview
witnesses and address community needs. The Blenheim and
Ridgetown stations have records personnel working at the front
counters for walk in traffic to address community needs. Our

COMMUNITY MOBOLIZATION INITIATIVES
The newly formed
Crime Prevention and
Safety Board of Chatham-Kent is a concept that was initiated in
2004. The purpose of the Board is to collaborate with community partners
and residents of Chatham-Kent in the identification, planning and
implementation of Crime Prevention and Community Safety initiatives.
Given the diversity of Chatham-Kent, crime trends and
concerns in each area are unique, and should be treated as such. The
sharing of information, best practices, resources, and networking will
help to connect Chatham-Kent, and build a safe and healthy community
where we can live, work and play together.
In early 2006 several Community meeting were held in
District #2 including Blenheim, Ridgetown, Thamesville and Bothwell.
Several citizens attended and volunteered to get involved in crime
prevention initiatives in our area. These exciting programs will be
starting soon, or have already started, to find out more or to become
involved please contact the Sgt. Brian Biskey at the above e-mail
address or by phone.
The Clachan Neighbourhood Watch group was formed in 2005
and has had a significant impact on crime in their area. The cooperative
efforts of the community, and the police service is a testament to the
effectiveness of these programs. Please read the
Clachan
Neighbourhood Watch report for interesting information and
statistics. Their success and achievements in reducing crime in their
area are an exciting example that again shows how working together will
reduce crime.
Crime Prevention is defined as “the anticipation,
recognition, and appraisal of a crime risk and the initiation of some
action to reduce or remove it.” Everyone in our community including the
police have a responsibility in making crime prevention a part of their
daily routine. Whether it is the officer on patrol who stops to educate
a business owner or property owner on better ways to light the outside
of their home or business, or the citizen who calls 911 to report
suspicious activity in their neighbourhood, everyone has a part to play
in preventing crime.
