Information Requests
The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
was implemented on January 1, 1991, and provides individuals with a
right of access to certain records and personal information under the
custody of the Police Service.
The purposes of the Act are as follows:
- to provide a right of access to information under the
control of institutions in accordance with the principles that,
information should be available to the public, necessary exemptions
for the right of access should be limited and specific, decisions on
the disclosure of information should be reviewed independently of
the Police Service who controls the information, and
- to protect the privacy of individuals with respect to
personal information about themselves held by institutions and to
provide individuals with a right of access to that information.

All requests must be in writing either by application form or by
letter and accompanied by the legislated $5.00 application
fee. Cash, cheque or money order will be accepted. Please make cheques
payable to Chatham-Kent Police Service. All requests must include
Requestors name, full address, DOB, telephone number and must identify
the specific record(s) requested or supply sufficient detail to enable
us to identify the record(s).
You may print a copy of the Request Form on-line or obtain further
information directly from the Information and Privacy Commissioner @
www.ipc.on.ca
Once your complete application along with the $5.00 fee is received,
you will be notified within 30 days regarding disclosure. All decisions
issued under the Act can be appealed to the Information Privacy
Commissioners Office.
Please note that in addition to the $5.00 application fee, there is a
legislated fee schedule for the processing of access requests that
include photocopying, searching and preparing records that may apply to
your request.
