The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 83 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Six people were arrested. Of the six people arrested, one was arrested on an outstanding warrant and two people were arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.
Update: Break and Enter in Chatham
The Chatham-Kent police have charged in man in connection with a break and enter earlier this week.
As previously reported, on January 6 between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. unknown suspect(s) entered a residence on Adelaide Street through an unlocked door and stole a Samsung LCD television and Lumix Digital SLR digital camera with a total value of approximately $1500. The homeowner later reported that a brown coat had also been stolen.
Through investigation, police located the television and brown coat at a residence on Stanley Avenue in Chatham. The recovered stolen items were returned to the homeowners.
Just before 4:00 a.m. this morning, police arrested Kenneth Bondy, 25 years of Cross Street in Chatham. He has been charged with possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was released with conditions pending a future court date of February 1, 2013.
Woman Charged with Failing to Comply
The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman for failing to comply with her release conditions.
In November 2012, the woman was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions was to obey a curfew between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily except for employment purposes or in the company of her surety.
Shortly after 12:00 a.m. this morning, an officer while on general patrol in Chatham observed a vehicle travelling westbound on Park Avenue West with expired plates. The officer initiated a traffic stop and located the woman in the driver’s seat with no valid explanation for breaching her release conditions. The woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters.
The 25-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with failing to comply. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Motor Vehicle Collision in Tilbury
Yesterday afternoon, shortly after 1:00 p.m. emergency crews responded to the No Frills parking lot in regards to a motor vehicle collision where a woman driving a pick-up truck struck a man loading items into his pick-up truck. The collision resulted in the man getting pinned between the two vehicles. The 66-year-old Wheatley woman was not injured. The 86-year-old Merlin man was transported via ambulance to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for treatment of serious injuries. Total damages were estimated at $5000. This collision remains under investigation.
Motor Vehicle Collision in Dover Township
Yesterday morning, at about 7:45 a.m. emergency crews responded to a motor vehicle collision where a black Nissan Pathfinder travelling westbound on Grande River Line struck a cyclist, also travelling westbound in the same lane. The 33-year-old Chatham driver was not injured. The 26-year-old cyclist from Chatham was transported via ambulance to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. Total damages were estimated at $700.
