Auxiliary Unit

There are many people who wish to experience police work through active involvement. The Chatham-Kent Police Service Auxiliary Unit offers opportunities to citizens to become part of the police organization in a volunteer capacity.

The Auxiliary Unit presently has an authorized complement of 14 members. Auxiliary members are volunteers who assist police officers at community events such as parades, special events, crowd control, and also accompany officers on patrol.

Auxiliary members are selected on the basis of their ability to complete the training program and their availability for service throughout the year. Members commit to at least a two-year term and volunteer for a minimum of 16 hours each month. The members must also attend regular
in-service training sessions as set out by the training officer. Initial training consists of 40 hours of instruction in such topics as powers of arrest and criminal code, and physical restraining methods.

If you are interested in volunteering your time as an Auxiliary officer, you can view the minimum requirements to see if you possess the necessary qualifications. Recruitment is conducted as required and a notice of recruitment will be posted on this website when applications are being accepted.
