Evidence and Property Management

Chatham-Kent Police Services' Evidence and Property Management Sectionis responsible for the safe storage and continuity of all evidence seized by the members of the Service.

This department also organizes and conducts two public auctions a year.

Some found property may be claimed by finders, when the owner cannot be identified. However, certain property is not returnable to finders, such as bicycles, cell phones, prohibited weapons, drugs, identification, explosive substances and other items that pose a health hazard.

If the owner of found property is not located, the finder may request, in writing to the Chief of Police before the end of the 90 day retention, to claim said property. Once the Chief's authorizes the claim, the finder will be contacted by phone. If finder does not claim said property between the 90 - 120 day retention, the claim shall be forfeited. The procedure to make claim is located on the back of the finder's copy (green) of the property receipt.
